Masterminds of Sri Lanka Attacks

Brothers of Sri Lanka are bombing masterminds in safe house battles. When the Wahhabis came, with their strict ideologies the town of Kattankudy yielded fertile ground. In this particular part, faith was the main promptings in everyone’s life. Wahhabism is a hard line strain of Islam blamed for breeding militancy which to their belief was a direct path to god though they aimed to return to the religion of the time of Prophet Muhammad. It was in this very area that the man of who has been accused of being masterminding the Easter attack on Sunday in Sri Lanka grew up. He preached his ideology here and called for the parish of the non-believers in Islam and other Muslims. The mastermind has made his religion and his ideologies a weapon to conduct the onslaught on the innocent. This rings a bell about Christianity that how evangelists tried to turn every single soul into Christian and killed the ones who refused to preach Christianity.

The Brief Historical Background of Kattankudy

It is essential to a quick look at the historical background of the town of Kattankudy which grew so violent today. In the 1980s this town was one of the most exclusive Muslim towns in Buddhist-majority Sri Lanka which blossomed into a centre of Islamic life. The town was rich with Saudi money for mosques and madrasas, work-abroad contracts and university scholarships. The advents of Wahhabism, however, preach the isolating dogma of Multi-Faith Island where minority Muslims have traditionally practiced a more inclusive faith. Wahhabism’s intolerance has become a threat not only to those who do not believe in Islam but also other Muslim sections as well. Though Saudi Arabia insists that the faith they preach has nothing to do with violence and shedding of blood. They preach humanity too. Critics have long blamed the kingdom’s mass export of its austere creed for fuelling extremism and terrorism abroad. Today in Kattankudy, only the stately date palms lie all around which seems as if it a lagoon filled landscape or a desert oasis.

The Scenario

There are more than 60 mosques in Kattankudy for a population of 45000. Life seems peaceful here; at least it was for all these years. However, the religious dogma persists. They continue to practice polygamy i.e. having multiple wives and believe in child marriage even now. Mr. Hizbullah, the governor of the Eastern Province seems indifferent towards reversing any of these regulations as he believes that reversal of such regulations could lead to violation of their religion Islam. Last, week, he was brought in for questioning by the authorities for being in connection with the radical group founded by Mr. Zaharan. The practitioners of Islam in Kattankudy disregard radicalism as they are puritanical in nature. It was in the year 2004 that Wahhabis had attacked the Sufis who are believed to practice a mystical form of Islam. It is said that the next generations of Wahhabis have been influenced by such an attack. Grenades were thrown and swords thrust. Hundreds of Sufis were driven out of their dwellings. The Wahhabis have totally been gnawed by the conduction of violence ingrained by them by their ancestors. They were under the terror of Zahran’s anti-Sufi brigade which led them to campaign against the Sufis.

The Wahhabis seem not to have calmed down and would conduct many such attacks in the future. On Sunday, the gunmen who were hiding in the crowd were not suspected in a broke fire on the general public threw grenades. Many innocent lives were lead to death. More than 100 people were dead that night which also includes children and infants. The perpetrators were believed to have been Tamil Tigers.
It has been seen that the rate of attacks and killings are increasing at a rapid pace. Religious and ideological dogmas are the areas of origination of such violence and brutish acts. It should be included in the educational field as well that spiritual teachings are supposed to deter us from astray and not become criminals.
