The 2018 Asian Games is officially referred to as the 18th Asian Games. This pan-Asia game began on 18th August and continued till 2nd September, 2018. These games are being held in Indonesian cities of Palembang and Jakarta. This time, and it is for this first time that the games are being held in two cities and co-hosted by both of them. The Indonesian capital, Jakarta and Palembang, and the capital of South Sumatra province will be hosting this event. The events will be taking place around two cities and will be including the venue’s of Bandung and other places like Banten and West Java. Both, the opening as well as the closing ceremony of the Game will take place at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium of Jakarta.

 

The demonstration sports which will be included in the event daily includes eSports as well as the canoe polo. This is the debut ceremony for the games. However, in the next Asian games of 2022, eSports will also have the medal event.

The mascot for the 2018 Asian Games is regarded to be Derawan, the bird-of-paradise. The mascot was revealed at the opening ceremony of Jakarta and Palembang. The bird was seen sporting the uniform made of Indonesian martial art, pencak spot. This helped to represent the heritage of the country to the world.

Costing

The total cost of the Asian Games 2018 is regarded to be $3.2 billion. The budget finalised by the Central Government in 2015 was regarded to be around IDR 3 trillion, which is USD 224 million. Regional administrations also helped in the funding of the game. Nonetheless, by the starting of the game around July, the budget for the game was increased to IDR 6.6 trillion. Also, the sponsorship of IDR 869 billion was offered as the funding process.

Venue

For the beginning of the game, several areas were renovated. Especially, the four main provinces of Indonesia were made to undergo the renovation process, Jakarta, Banten, South Sumatra and West Java. The main centre of the game is being held at capital, Jakarta and Palembang. The four divisions for the games are made which includes 3 in Jakarta and 1 in Palembang. The 15 place for games and 11 training places have been set in West Java and Banten. These two places share their borders with Jakarta, thus can be helpful for the Asian Games. A total of 80 places have been set up for training as well as competitions. Most of the sports will be held at the Jakarta International Expo and Jakarta Convention Center.

Sports

As per March 2017, the Olympic Council of Asia announced that it would be featuring 484 events of the 42 sports. These sports may also include the permanent games in Olympic which were a part of the 2016 Summer Olympics. More five events would be added in the Summer Olympics 2020 which will be held in Tokyo. This time, Asian Games 2018, also saw the introduction of video game titles. Some of the prominent sports which are a part of the Asian Games 2018 include

There are a altogether, different series of games which will be making its way to the 2018 Asian Games. Since the demonstration games are making its way to the Asian Games, it will be a treat to watch them get finalised by the next season.
