BCCI senior selection committee meets to announce the Indian cricket squad for the first two matches of the home Test series against England.

The squad is finalized in the meeting of the newly assembled selection committee, which holds virtually and headed by Chetan Sharma. The other four members of the committee Who attended are Sunil Joshi, Abey Kuruvilla, Debashish Mohanty, and Harvinder Singh (from Brisbane), include Indian Skipper Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli returns along with Hardik Pandya and Ishant Sharma

Whereas Virat Kohli will return as captain of the Indian cricket team, along with all-rounder Hardik Pandya and pacer Ishant Sharma will return.

while skipper Kohli returns after his paternity leave for the birth of their first child, which was born on January 11. Hardik Pandya has been named in the Test squad for the first time since 2018. Where he has been selected as a specialist batsman. Whereas Ishant Sharma also will be a part of the Indian cricket squad against England, which missed out on the Australian tour, has been bowling well in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy(domestic T20 competition).

Wicketkeepers Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha, both will be part of the Indian cricket squad, while bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur and debutant Washington Sundar got the reward of their great performance in the Brisbane Test(India vs Australia).

Rohit Sharma and Shubhaman Gill will be the openers in the Indian cricket squad and Mayank will be the third opener. While Mohammad Siraj has been selected who has also taken 13 wickets for his tour of Australia. Also batsman KL Rahul will be available from the second test match after recovering from injury.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will lead the spin attack along with Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar along with All-rounder Axar Patel, who has also been picked in India’s cricket team for the first two Tests.

While  Ishant, Bumrah also return, Thakur and Siraj will strengthen the pace-attack of the Indian cricket squad.

Hanuma Vihari, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja four weren’t named in the squads, who have been nursing their injuries till.

Virat Kohli (c), Ajinkya Rahane (VC), Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal, Rishabh Pant (wk), Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur

Apart from the selected 18 players, BCCI has also announced a few players as stand-byes. are following:

KS Bharat (Andhra wicket-keeper batsman), Abhimanyu Easwaran(Bengal batsman ), Shahbaz Nadeem(Jharkhand left-arm spinner ), Rahul Chahar(Rajasthan leg-spinner), and Priyank Panchal(Gujarat batsman).

The committee has also named five net bowlers(includes three pace bowlers and two spinners) in concern of covid19 Norm, which are  Avesh Khan(Madhya Pradesh pacer), Ankit Rajpoot(Uttar Pradesh pacer), and spinner Saurabh Kumar,  Sandeep Warrier(Kerala pacer) and Krishnappa Gowtham(Karnataka spin all-rounder).
